Less than a third of reported crime cases are solved on an annual basis, a former Chief Secretary of Bulgaria's Interior Minstry has said.

The Chief Secretary is responsible for running the ministry on a daily basis and his role is crucial in cases of emergency or high-profile crime cases.

Nikolay Radulov, who took the office between 1997 and 1999, told Bulgaria On Air TV station on Friday that cited official data according to which some 119 000 cases were registered in 2015, around 30% of them being solved so far.

However, Radulov pointed out that, while the number of crimes could be higher (with many affected people not reporting to police), the percentage of solved cases might turn out higher.
