Russia Introduces New Currency Exchange Rules

Russia | December 28, 2015, Monday // 09:40|  views

Russia's central bank has announced that anyone exchanging more than RUB 15 000 into another currency will have to provide an ID document, an address document, and information about nationality and date of birth.

Officials say the measures are an attempt to prevent money laudering and cut funding of terrorist activities.

A telephone number and an e-mail address will also have to be provided by the customer, daily Kommersant reports.

The abovementioned sum is equivalent to equivalent around EUR 190. Under rules applied so far, only names and several personal details were requried to exchange any amount of money bigger than RUB 15 000.

The measure is in force as of December 28.
