The thirteenth edition of the annual charity campaign “The Bulgarian Christmas” has fundraised nearly BGN 1.8 M for the treatment of children since its start in the beginning of December.

This year’s edition of the campaign, which is under the auspices of Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, focuses on support for children in critical medical condition, who are in need of resuscitation.

As of Saturday, nearly BGN 681 000 have been fundraised via SMS texts and calls to the dedicated number and another BGN 1 116 000 have been fundraised in the dedicated bank account.

Fundraising for the campaign, which was unveiled by Plevneliev in the beginning of December, is year-round.

The culmination of the charity campaign is the traditional concert, which takes place in the Ivan Vazov National Theater in Sofia on Christmas Day.

This year’s concert was attended by Plevneliev, former President Petar Stoyanov (1997-2002), European Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva, MPs, diplomats, medics and many of the children, for whom the funds are raised.

Distinguished Bulgarian musicians, athletes, actors and journalists appeared on the stage of the theatre.

Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte made a special video address in support of the children of Bulgaria and their families.

The funds raised will be allocated to the treatment of 2292 children.

The funds have been used to purchase contemporary medical equipment for 210 medical facilities across the country.

Those wishing to make a donation can do so by sending a SMS text to 1117, making a phone call to 09001117, making a bank transfer to “The Bulgarian Christmas” via epay.bg or a direct bank card payment via the official website of the campaign - bgkoleda.bg.
