Go2Balkans Conference to Look for Joint Tourism Promotion in SE Europe

A Southeastern European conference called Go2Balkans is due to begin in Sofia on Wednesday bringing together tour operators, hoteliers and municipalities from Bulgaria and the wider region.

Focused on popularizing the cultural and historical heritage and nature of countries from the Balkan Peninsula, the event will be held at the Inter Expo Center in Sofia for the second year in a row.

Daily Standart quotes "business representatives" as saying the Bulgarian authorities are lagging behind in terms of advertising the country as a tourist destination, and this prompts businesses to explore solutions on their own.

"The idea and initiative comes from the tourist industry, represented by the members of the Association of Bulgarian tour operators and travel agents (ABTTA)". The consortium is mainly aimed at attracting "the attention of tour operators from all over the world towards the tourist services offered in Bulgaria and the other countries on the Balkans", the Go2Balkans organizers write on their website.

Most of the companies registered so far are from Bulgaria. Businesses from Southeastern European countries such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey, but also from Italy, Austria, Poland and Ukraine, have already added their names as participants.

Two companies from Jordan and one from Morocco are also attending.
