EU Commission Adopts Bulgaria's Fisheries, Aquaculture Programme Worth EUR 113 M

At the end of the last week, the European Commission adopted a key investment package on maritime affairs, fisheries and aquaculture in Bulgaria.

The programme worth a total оф EUR 113 M foresees the allocation of EUR 88 M from EU funds in the 2014-2020 programme period.

Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva noted that the fund will provide more secure employment and income for thousands of fishermen as well as more stable supplies of fish, cleaner seas and rivers.

With the adoption of this programme, Bulgaria will have at its disposal a full package of EU funds amounting to BGN 32 B in the 2014-2020 programme period.

Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime affairs and Fisheries, highlighted the contribution of the programme towards sustainable growth.

In Vella's words, the focus of the investment package is on economic, ecological and social sustainability, which will ensure the allocation of funds to projects seeking to achieve long-term results.
