More than half of Turkish voters have voiced preference for the current political system in the country to be preserved, an Ipsos poll suggests.

The survey was carried out on November 02, a day after the early election in which the Justice and Development Party (AKP) regained the majority it had lost in the June 07 vote.

About 57% of respondents said the country should keep its parliamentary system, compared to 31% who are in favor of switching to a presidential one, H?rriyet Daily News reports, citing results of the poll.

Twelve percent were unable to answer.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a founder of the AKP, has been pushing for a presidential system since being elected head of state last summer.

Separately, a majority of voters believe the leaders of nationalist MHP party and center-left CHP should be removed, with a lower percentage of people backing a change at pro-Kurdish HDP and just 21% supporting the replacement of AKP leader Ahmet Davutoglu.
