Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's spokesman ?brahim Kal?n said Wednesday a referendum on the country's government system is possible.

Kal?n's comments follow a landslide victory of the Justice and Development Party, founded by Erdogan, in the general election held Sunday.

The spokesperson ruled out a national poll held on the issue would be about the fate or Erdogan himself, stressing a discussion will not be held without including the people.

Prime Minister Davutoglu said the night after elections to a cheering crowd of AKP supporters that his party would seek constitutional changes to boost presidential powers, despite not having a two-thirds majority that would have allowed it to amend the basic law through a referendum.

“It is obvious that the current system does not meet Turkey’s needs. This shirt is too tight for this country,” Anadolu Agency quotes him as saying.

Even before winning the 2014 presidential elections, after having served nearly three terms as Prime Minister, Erdogan has made no secret of his plans for an executive presidency.
