A new cyber attack targeted on Sunday the website of Bulgaria's Central Election Commission (CIK) during a run-off vote of local elections, officials say.
The attack was "weaker" compared to the one of last week, when the first round and a referendum on online voting were held, Prof Mihail Konstantinov, who heads state-owned Information Services company, has told Focus News Agency.
CIK's website stopped responding for a few seconds, and access to it was slow for some time later on Sunday morning, Konstantinov explained.
He made clear the situation was now under control, with no problems in opening the website.
Ekaterina Zaharieva, the President's advisor, later told private national bTV station "an unprecendented interest" in the Presidency's website had been displayed by Thailand-based users on Sunday morning, with 50 million visits to the websites in less than an hours.
"Actually, the President's website hasn't been hacked. This is just due to the wide interest."
