The Bulgarian government approved at its regular meeting on Wednesday the intergovernmental agreement on the repair of the country's MiG-29 fighter jets by Poland.

Bulgarian Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev and his Polish counterpart Tomasz Siemoniak signed the agreement on the repair of the fighter jets on October 22.

The government calls on the Bulgarian parliament to ratify the agreement, a step necessary for the document's final approval.

The agreement foresees the repair of six Bulgarian engines and the use of two Polish engines on loan for a period of two years.

The price agreed for the repair of each engine is EUR 1.023 M, with Poland taking care of the transport costs.

The two Polish engines will be provided within twenty days after the agreement has entered into force.

The agreement includes clauses on the schedule of the repair works, quality assurance and dispute settlement.

The goal of the agreement is to ensure the fighter jets are capable of guarding the country's airspace and participating in NATO Air Policing missions.
