Bulgarian Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov expressed hope on Friday that the government budget for 2016 will allocate more funds for spending on defence, education and infrastructure.

Goranov added that the draft government budget for 2016 will be tabled to parliament until October 30, the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) quotes him as saying.

The finance minister is beginning meetings with all parliamentary groups in order to clarify all parameters of the budget and all parties supporting the coalition government will take part in the consultations at the finance ministry next week.

Goranov also assured that Christmas bonuses will be allocated to pensioners.

The government was working on securing nearly BGN 50 M, which will give an opportunity to repeat the amounts of individual bonuses which were granted for Easter.

In his words, there was will to allocate more resources to the defence and security sectors, but he expressed doubt whether these sectors should be the national priorities of Bulgaria.

Since his priority was for the country to stop incurring debts, he would propose limiting the deficit next year to around 2 % of the country's GDP.

In parliament, Goranov held a meeting with the co-leader of one of the parties supporting the coalition government – the Patriotic Front (PF), Valeri Simeonov.

Simeonov was firm that the main priorities in the new budget are education, defence and the interior ministry.

He praised the finance minister for his approach to initiating discussions on the budget with the parliamentary groups.

Simeonov revealed that the parliamentary group of PF focused not only on the expenditures of the budget, but also sought ways to increase the revenues.
