Czech PM: Prague Will Respect Migrant Quotas Decision

Lawmakers in the Czech Republic have overwhelmingly rejected a permanent migrant relocation mechanis among EU member states.

MPs, however, have also turned down a proposal to file a lawsuit at the European Court of Justice against the EU over the currently approved quotas plan.

Eastern European member states such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland vehemently rejected an earlier decision by EU leaders on the one-off relocation of 160 000 migrants across the bloc.

But before the vote in Prague's Parliament, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said his country would respect the decision even though it was still convinced the quotas will solve nothing, the Prague Post quotes him as saying.

Slovakia for its part already announce it would challenge the quotas plan at the European Court of Justice. Bratislava had earlier insisted it would only accept a few hundred migrants on the condition that they are Christians. Under the current scheme, Slovakia has to receive a little more than 1502 people.
