Increasing Number of Migrants Crossing into Serbia from Bulgaria - B92

An increased number of migrants are crossing into Serbia's Dimitrovgrad over the past three months, a Serbian media outlet says.

Its data suggests every day this border region is reached by 200 to 300 people crossing from Serbia's eastern neighbor.


Every day Middle Eastern migrants arrive in Serbia via Bulgaria and complain about having been arrested and beaten, B92's website reads.

People from Bulgaria tend to arrive on foot, at a time when whether conditions are becoming more severe.

"We are cold, wet and hungry. We will make it somehow, but for children it is hard," a Syrian women is quoted as saying.

Apart from the difficulties they are having while crossing mountainous regions at the border, they complain of mistreatment by police officers.

Some also claimed they were left imprisoned without being given any meals for a few days.

More than 20 000 migrants have crossed crossed into Dimitrovgrad over the past three months, most of them coming from Syria or Afghanistan.
