A smart system featuring an application for mobile handsets will provide real-time information about the traffic environment in Bulgaria, according to Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova.

The application is to be released in October.

The service will be provided free of charge because it is part of the LIMA traffic management software developed by Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency under a project implemented with 100% European grant financing, according to Pavlova, as cited by econ.bg.

The application will be compatible with all types of smartphones, tablets, and computers.

It will provide real-time information about roads closed due to repair works, difficult driving conditions in winter, snow plow, or traffic accidents.

There will be an opportunity to provide feedback and exercise civilian control, according to Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister.

In her words, the feedback option means that travelers will be able to submit signals about the traffic environment, which will be checked and responded to.

The new technology is an important element of the strategic priority of Bulgaria’s government to ensure road safety and is part of the program for the introduction of e-government.

According to Pavlova, the authorities will seek to connect the system to the Interior Ministry and Health Ministry units across the country, thereby substantially improving response to emergency situations.
