The Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said on Monday the country won’t introduce checks at its border with Austria for the time being – unlike Germany which has reintroduced controls along its border with Austria to stem a massive migrant influx.

"For us, the situation is not such that we would consider some fundamental measures," Zaoralek said, according to Reuters

Instead, the Czech government has decided to increase by 200 the number of police officers deployed along the country’s border with Austria.

The reason is that with passage to Germany from Austria now impeded, more migrants may try to get to Germany via the Czech Republic.

The reinforcements will be deployed at three train stations and 11 road points, CTK quoted a police spokesperson as saying on Sunday.

The Czech Republic and other central European countries have firmly rejected mandatory quotas to redistribute 160,000 asylum seekers as part of the European Union's response to its migrant crisis.
