Trafficking of Refugees Reportedly Takes New Route Across Bulgarian-Greek Border

The trafficking of refugees in Bulgaria has reportedly taken a new route across the country's border with Greece.

This takes place in the area of the abandoned village of Siv Kladenets near the Luda reka river, which runs along the Bulgarian-Greek border.

This was revealed by the journalist Stefan Tashev in an interview for private NOVA TV station on Thursday.

According to him, every night at least 40-50 people are taken across the border and they sleep in the abandoned buildings of the village.

From there the trafficking rings transport the people to Serbia via Plovdiv and Pazardzhik.

This route has been functioning since the mid-1990s when it was used for the trafficking of women for prostitution.

Tashev was not certain whether this was done with the protection of the police.

According to his sources, one of the human trafficking rings is related to the Iztok neighbourhood of Pazardzhik and the imam Ahmed Musa, who has been convicted of preaching radical Islam.
