A US company is considering the option to use land near Sofia Airport to set up a aircraft parts factory there, a Bulgarian official has said.

In an announcement to daily 24 Chasa, InvestBulgaria Agency head Stamen Yanev has not disclosed the name of the company, but has made clear it is a leading parts manufacturer whose customers include "big names" in aviation industry around the world, along with producers of items such as "military helicopters".

In Yanev's words, the company, founded more than a century ago, has production facilities in US and Poland.

However, he has made clear it doesn't want to have its name and those of customers unveiled for the moment.

Over the first three years, it is intending to make investments to the tune of BGN 5-6 M (EUR 2.5-3 M) into the Sofia-based facility, Yanev has pointed out.

The company reportedly felt attracted by the successful example of Lufthansa Technik Sofia, a joint venture which was established in 2008 near Sofia Airport and has had a remarkable record of repairing aircraft used by world-leading companies.
