Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday it is early to speak about a possible participation of the country in military operations against the Islamic State (IS) group.

Moscow is consideringvarious possibilities, but participation in military operations is not yet on our agenda," Putin told reporters at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, according to TASS news agency.

"We will hold consultations with our Syrian friends and the countries of the region," Putin said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday rejected media reports about a possible participation of the Russian military in airstrikes against Islamic State positions in Syria. According to those reports, Russia has already deployed military equipment and personnel in Syria to carry out such airstrikes.

Meanwhile, Russia is taking certain steps” to forge an international coalition “in the fight against terrorism and extremism”, Putin said, adding that he had discussed the matter over the phone with US President Barack Obama as well as the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and other countries.
