Serbia expects the European Union to clearly define its policy towards migrants, the country’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Wednesday.

Every country addresses this issue in a different way, and Serbia’s reaction will certainly not be to build a ‘counter-wall’, Tanjug news agency quoted Dacic as saying at a news conference in Belgrade.

He referred to the razor-wire fence built by EU-member Hungary along the country’s southern border with non-EU Serbia to stem the influx of illegal migrants.

Serbia will show solidarity despite the economic problems it is facing but the country isn’t a global power and can’t solve the problem alone, Dacic said. He described as ridiculous the EU’s financial assistance of EUR 1.7allocated to Serbia and Macedonia for resolving the refugee problem.

Dacic also said that the foreign ministers of EU candidate countries will attend a meeting of their EU counterparts on Friday and Saturday who will discuss the migration issue.

Over 10,000 migrants, including many women with babies and small children, have crossed into Serbia in just a few days at the end of August and headed toward Hungary.
