Bulgaria's top ranking male tennis player Grigor Dimitrov proceeded to the second round of the Rogers Cup on Tuesday.

In the first round, Dimitrov defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov from Ukraine with 6:4, 7:5 in a match, which lasted just over an hour and a half.

Despite the tough opponent, the Bulgarian demonstrated stable performance in both sets, conceeding only one break.

Dimitrov made a decisive break at the end of the opening set and recorded two others at key moments in the second one.

In the second round, which will be played later on Wednesday, Dimitrov is to face Jack Sock from the USA.

This will be the third encounter between the two players, who had previously exchanged a victory each, daily Dnevnik informs.

Their most recent encounter was in the first round of this year's Roland-Garros, when Sock defeated heavily the Bulgarian with 7:6 (7), 6:2, 6:3.

The winner from their match will face the world No.1 Novak Djokovic for a place in the quarterfinals.

In last year's edition of the tournament, Dimitrov, who is currently seeded 14th in the competition, reached the semifinals.
