Bulgarian Dairy Producers Unlikely to Be Awarded Compensations by EC

The European Commission has currently no intention of paying pay compensations to Bulgarian dairy producers due to the decrease in the price of the raw material and the losses caused by the Russian embargo, according to Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva.

Taneva, as cited by the BGNES news agency, noted that the EC was firm in its refusal to admit that the dairy sector was plagued by a crisis.

She informed that the attitude had not prevented Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Slovenia from agreeing to continue their joint activities at the EC aimed at the introduction of concrete measures in support of the dairy industries in these countries.

Taneva made clear that a meeting of representatives of Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, and the Visegrad Group was scheduled to take place in August 2015, adding that the topic would be included in the agenda.

She pointed out that the seven countries were planning joint activities targeting the dairy sector, including a joint letter to EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan.
