Three Spanish journalists have been missing in Syria for more than a week now, AFP reported on Tuesday.

Jose Manuel Lopez, Antonio Pampliega and Angel Sastre entered Syria from Turkey to report from the Aleppo area on 10 July and there has been no news of them since 12 July.

“For the moment we can only call it a disappearance,” AFP quoted the President of the Federation of Press Associations of Spain, Elsa Gonzalez, as saying.

Spanish news agency EFE reported the country’s Foreign Ministry was aware of the situation.

Once Syria's commercial center, Aleppo has been the scene of daily fighting between government- and rebel-held neighborhoods since 2012. The Islamic State group, which has kidnapped Western journalists in Syria and later killed them, is outside Aleppo and controls parts of the countryside north and east of the city, according to AP.
