Bulgarian football player Blagoy Georgiev was reportedly detained by Italian authorities for committing an act of vandalism in the Colosseum in Rome on Thursday.

Georgiev was caught on the spot as he was attempting to carve his name on one of the columns with a coin, daily Dnevnik reports.

The Bulgarian was on a visit to the Colosseum with his fiancee when he tried to inscribe their initials on one of the columns.

The PR of Georgiev dismissed the allegations and said that there was coincidence of names, with the football player being in Moscow at the time of the vandalism, private bTV station informs.

According to media reports, the Italian legislation foresees a fine of minimum EUR 300 and a prison sentence of between six months and one year for the perpetrators of such crimes.
