Leaders of the four biggest parties in Macedonia have contracted an agreement for the resolution of the political crisis in the country. The early parliamentary elections have now been scheduled for April 24, 2016, as reported by MIA news agency.

A mediator in the negotiations has been EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn who made a statement on the decisions agreed shortly after midnight.

''This day and tonight are excellent for the country,'' Hahn stated at a press conference in Skopje. ''They will open widely the doors to Euro-Atlantic perspectives.''

Prime Minister and leader of he VMRO-DPMNE party Nikola Gruevski stated that the political crisis in Macedonia is now over.

The PM in the interim cabinet, which will govern the country before the elections take place, will be appointed by the ruling VMRO-DPMNE party. Gruevski is expected to submit his resignation in December.

A new specialized prosecutor will also need to be appointed and will investigate all violations of wiretapping procedures.

The leader of the opposition Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), Zoran Zaev, also expressed his satisfaction with the decision.
