Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov will discuss the latest developments in the country’s partnership with the United States during a working visit to Washington, D.C. this week.

The trip, to take place from 13 to 17 July, comes six months after US Secretary of State John Kerry visited Sofia to discuss economic ties, energy security, the rule of law as well as security and defense issues with Bulgarian officials. The two sides agreed back then to set up working groups tasked with advancing the bilateral dialogue in these areas.

A comprehensive review of the strategic dialogue and the performance of the working groups in the first six months of their operation will be made during Daniel Mitov’s talks with US officials, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia announced on its website on 13 July.

Mitov is scheduled to meet senior members of US Congress, including the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee John McCain, the Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee of the Senate Ron Johnson and  Dianne Feinstein, Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister will also meet officials from the State Department, the National Security Council, the Pentagon and the Energy Department, according to the announcement.
