Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak has said his country is considering options to provide direct energy supplies to Greece.

Energy cooperation might be expanded since Moscow and Athens are "working on them [supplies of raw materials] and we expect an agreement to be reached in a few weeks' time," Russian business daily RBC quotes Novak as saying.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier said his country was closely following developments in Greece with "certain concern" and that Moscow could help the Southeastern European country despite its own problems.

This came just as a Eurozone summit was about to begin and as the single currency area's finance ministers were working on a last-ditch attempt to strike a new bailout deal with Greece on Sunday.
