Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and the delegation led by him were attacked with stones thrown at them during the commemorative ceremony marking the twentieth anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre on Saturday.

The incident happened as the Serbian delegation was laying flowers at the memorial complex in Potocari.

According to media reports, Vucic was hit with a stone in the face and his glasses were broken, B92 informs.

Apart from stones, shoes and bottles were also hurled and participants loudly booed the Serbian delegation, shouting "Allahu Akbar" and "genocide".

The Serbian delegation has been evacuated and left Srebrenica, while one person has been arrested for the attack.

Serbia's interior and foreign ministers condemned the incident, which according to them amounted to an "assassination attempt" and "attack on all Serbia", the BBC reports.

Prior to the attack, Vucic signed the book of condolences, expressing hope that such a terrible crime will not happen again.

The Serbian prime minister also met with representatives of the Mothers of Srebrenica association, who pinned a flower of remembrance on his lapel.
