Bulgaria to Continue Supporting Euro-Atlantic Integration of Montenegro – President

President Rosen Plevneliev assured that Bulgaria will continue supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro.

Plevneliev said this after his meeting with the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic in Sofia on Thursday, the website of the president informs.

The Bulgarian President expressed hope that Montenegro will receive an invitation for accession to NATO until the end of the year.

According to him, such a move would be a success not only for Montenegro, but also for the region and the Balkan country deserves to become member of NATO as soon as possible.

In his words, the Alliance could submit the membership invitation at the forthcoming NATO summit in Warsaw, which will be of historical importance.

Vujanovic expressed gratitude to Bulgaria and Plevneliev for the continuous support on the road to the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro.

The Head of State of Montenegro also thanked for the Bulgarian help and support for developing the infrastructure and transport connections in the region.

Vujanovic pointed to the main goal of Montenegro as being to continue the construction of the transport infrastructure of the Western Balkans and expressed hope that more Bulgarian companies and banks will take part in this process.

Bulgaria and Montenegro shared a common position on the need of building a regional energy market, which would guarantee the energy security of the individual states and market prices.

Plevneliev shared the Bulgarian idea for creating an energy exchange in Southeastern Europe, which would comprise twelve countries and a population of more than 150 million people.

This would be of strategic importance for the region as it would increase transparency and competition and reduce dependence on monopolists, which set the prices regardless of the market.

Plevneliev added that Bulgaria and Romania will be the first countries of Southeastern Europe to fully liberalise their energy markets until the end of the year.

The two presidents further discussed concrete joint projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure and tourism and deepening the commercial-economic cooperation between the two countries.

The two countries will also work towards strengthening the partnership between the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and the European Union (EU).
