Police in Bulgaria are now working around the clock to hunt down the men suspected of having beaten a 47-year-old employee at a road construction site to death has handed himself over to police.

On Friday Nikolay Chiviev, who was in charge of transporting materials during repair works at Struma motorway, was hit many times with a stone, allegedly by two men after refusing to let them drive into a restricted-access junction under construction at the moment.

Reportedly, the incident unfolded as one of the men's wife and children were inside the car.

Earlier reports on Saturday that one of the suspects has turned himself in were denied.

One of the alleged killers is named Emil Chachev, and witnesses are quoted by daily Standart as saying he left for Greece.

The developments took place in the country's southwestern region, not far from the Bulgaria-Greece border.
