Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has warned EU leaders against paying too much attention on problems in Greece and neglecting other EU regions such as Northwestern Bulgaria.
Speaking Thursday evening at a European Council meeting, Borisov said that the EU heads of state "have been dealing with the situation Greece for years."
"Apart from the words that money is needed and that reforms have to be done someday we've heard nothing else. We all as states have issues, but there is never time for us since the agenda [is dedicated] to Greece. They should carry out their reforms and adhere to the Maastricht criteria," daily Standart quotes him as saying.
Borisov added that Bulgaria also wished to spend more money on public-sector wages and pensions, but did not afford that since it observed fiscal discipline.
Reasserting commitment of EU leaders to helping Greece, he also stressed that Northwestern Bulgaria retained its place as the EU's poorest region and the European Council had to take this into account.
