British Prime Minister David Cameron assured that Bulgaria could rely on British support for initiatives aimed at consolidating the energy security of the countries from Southeastern Europe.

Cameron announced this during his meeting with Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borisov in Brussels on Thursday ahead of the forthcoming European Council summit.

Migration, energy and the situation in Greece were among the topics of discussion at the meeting between Borisov and his British counterpart, the Bulgarian government's press service informs.

The two prime ministers assessed the state of bilateral relations as being in good shape and pointed to the strong political trust between the two governments.

Borisov expressed support for the completion of the single market in the areas of services, energy and the digital market.

The topic was discussed in line with the proposals of the UK for reform of the European Union (EU).

Borisov noted that the finding of solutions to the issues raised by the UK was of immediate importance to Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian PM shared his opinion that a regulation could be applied to the British social security system, which could limit the so-called “social tourism” to the country.

Borisov added that Bulgaria was in favour of a strong UK in the framework of a strong EU.

Cameron accepted the invitation for holding an official visit to Bulgaria in November.
