Kaloyan Topalov Elected Sofia City Court Chair

Kaloyan Topalov has been elected Chair of the Sofia City Court.

Topalov, judge at the Civil Division of the Sofia City Court and the only candidate for the post, was elected at a Wednesday meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS) with 14 votes in favor, 3 votes against, and 5 abstentions.

The Sofia City Court has had no Chair since February, when Vladimira Yaneva was temporarily dismissed at the request of the Chief Prosecutor over unlawfully issued permits for the use of special surveillance equipment.

Yaneva filed her resignation from the post of Sofia City Courrt Chair shortly after Tsatsarov’s motion.
