Bulgaria's chess grandmaster Veselin Topalov retained his lead and moved closer to claiming the championship title at the Norway Chess Supertournament, which is taking place in Stavanger.

In the seventh round, which took place on Tuesday, Topalov drew the Italian Fabiano Caruana after 48 moves, adding another half a point to his score.

In this way, the Bulgarian remains undefeated in the tournament, having won five games and drawing two, earning a total of six points out of seven possible.

Two rounds before the end of the tournament, Topalov has a 1.5 point lead over Viswanathan Anand from India and the US player Hikaru Nakamura.

In the last two rounds, which are taking place on Wednesday and Thursday, the Bulgarian will successively face the Dutch representative Anish Giri and Anand.
