''My main salary is BGN 2,400 and when the bonuses are added it goes up to BGN 2,800,'' stated Botevgrad mayor Georgi Georgiev in an interview for bTV Tuesday morning.

He admitted that the street right in front of his house had been laid with a fresh layer of asphalt, but added that it was his own investment. In his words, the cost of the project was BGN 9,000 - all money he was able to save up from his salary.

Georgiev further denied the rumor that his daughter is building a hotel. He did, however, mention that his family is involved in the construction of a hostel-type facility in town. The Mayor explained that the money for it have been provided through five loans from 4 different banks.

He also commented on his questioning that took place Monday in the local Prosecutor's Office. The Botevgrad Mayor is currently a subject of a preliminary investigation on corruption suspicions.

Georgiev had refused to go voluntarily so he had to be detained and led into questioning on Monday. In his words, he was not able to go when he was called because of health problems with his back.

''I had been given a doctor's prescription and I had to follow it, so that's why I did not go the first time I was called in,'' Georgiev said.
