Several business unions of international companies have moved to support Bulgarian energy watchdog KEVR's intention to increase electricity prices for industrial consumers, Capital Daily says.

This comes amid tensions between national business unions and the energy regulator as the latter is intending on rising industrial power prices in July.

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has joined calls of the national organizations, adding that he will also take to the streets to protest if the measures are applied.

Though Capital has stopped short of naming all the international entities that have backed the move, Confindustria (which brings together Bulgarian and Italian companies) is named as one of them.

Among Bulgarian unions, the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology (BMGK) is also supportive of the hike.

But all major employer associations - the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA), the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA), the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (CEIBG/KRIB) are set against.

They are warning that some of the member companies may begin daily, 1-hour strikes on June 26 unless their demands are heard.
