Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cassation Revokes Former IntMin's Sentence

The 4-year sentence given to Bulgaria's former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has now been revoked by the Bulgarian Supreme Court of Cassation.

The lawsuit will be returned for a new review by new court officials, as reported by BGNES.

In February of 2015 the Sofia Administrative Court issued a statement in which Tsvetanov was deemed guilty on account of non compliance with job orders thus causing a hindrance of an investigation against three people with criminal charges posed. As a result, Tsvetanov was sentenced to four years of imprisonment as well as a 5-year ban from taking up any administrative positions in Bulgaria.

The Supreme Court of Cassation complied with the request of Tsvetanov for the case to be returned for another review. The reasoning is the fact that the defendant allegedly did not get the chance of receiving a fair trial, as guaranteed by the Human Rights Convention and by Bulgarian law.
