UK tourists can book a bargain holiday in several countries in Europe including Bulgaria this summer thanks to the strong British pound, according to dailymail.co.uk.

According to recent statistics compiled by the UK’s Post Office, the British pound has gained 11.7% against the Bulgarian lev and 16.1% against the Turkish lira since 2014, boosting the spending power of British tourists visiting those countries. Against the euro, the pound is now 19% more expensive than it was in 2013.

A drop in prices in shops, restaurants and cafesin some of Europe's most popular family holiday hotspots is an additional bonus for British tourists as they will have more foreign cash to spend.

“From a survey of 12 family favourites in Europe and the USA, the Post Office found that nowhere can compete with Bulgaria, where prices have plunged almost 19% in Sunny Beach,” the article says.

“As a result a week's meals and drinks for a family of four together with suncream, beach toys and ice creams costs just under ?259 - over 20% less than in Algarve, the cheapest eurozone resort.”

According to the survey, Corfu in Greece, Marmaris in Turkey and Zadar in Croatia were more than double that price.
