The advancement in the construction of the Southern Gas Corridor - the interconnecting pipe between Bulgaria, Greece and other neighboring countries are among the main topics of discussion between US Special Envoy Amos Hochstein and Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.

Realization of these projects will guarantee the diversification of energy supplies for Bulgaria as well as for the region as a whole, in the words of Plevneliev.

Hochstein added that it is extremely important for energy relations to be two-sided to allow for increased trade of natural gas. Both government representatives noted that the eminent signing of the final investment decision will open the gate to a practical realization of the inter-system gas interconnection between Bulgaria and Greece.

Plevneliev further noted that it is important for the region that the establishing of an European Energy Union should start from the Balkans. He added that the creating of a regional energy market will be of key importance for achieving competitive prices of energy resources.
