Bulgarian Rose-Growers: Yield Dropped from 240kg to 90 kg of Petals per decare in 2015

Bulgarian Rose-growers have complained about a poor harvest, with the yield dropping from a rate of 240 kilograms of rose petals per decare in 2014 to 90 kilograms per decare in 2015.

Ivan Kyuchukov from the agricultural cooperative in the village of Rozovo, Kazanlak, as cited by the BGNES news agency, made clear that although all of the cultivation and harvesting procedures had been observed, the yield was three times lower.

“We have always managed to cover our expenses and to make a profit from roses. This year we are certainly registering a loss,” said Kyuchukov noted.

He argued, however, that the rose petals appeared to be of higher quality.

“Processors are best poised to say what they made out of a ton of petals but we believe that the rate of yield is better than in 2014,” he added.

The rose harvesting campaign in Bulgaria ends on Friday.
