Over 60 heads of state and government meet Wednesday in Brussels for the June 10-11 bi-annual summit in Brussels between the European Union and the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean States (CELAC).

Bulgaria will be represented by President Rosen Plevneliev at the 2-day summit.

A major topic on the agenda of the forum will be the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions by major industrialized economies, including Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

The EU has pledged a 40% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions by 2030 in an attempt to secure a commitment from the other major players before the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris in December.

“A legally binding agreement in Paris is essential for all of us. The contribution not only of G-7 but also of G-20 will be decisive,” said Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During the summit Rosen Plevneliev is expected to meet with Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff.
