The World Bank is organizing a competition for young programmers in the form of a hackathon to be held in Sofia.

There currently are 50 registered participants, who have formed a total of 16 teams, including a more experienced member and one with less experience in mobile ap development.

The main purpose of the event will be for mobile apps to be created that will facilitate communication of law violations by citizens to local institutions.

The two-day hackathon Code 4 Bulgaria will take place between June 6 and 7 at the Software University in Sofia. Both high school and college students will be eligible for participation, as long as they share a passion for programming of mobile apps. Funding for the project is provided through the Youth Innovation Fund to the World Bank and will be supported by leading IT companies in Bulgaria.

Petar Stoykov and Boyan Stanoev, who are currently working in the World Bank are the people behind the idea.

''It was difficult in the beginning as we didn't know people in Bulgaria, but the companies that did express their support, were very enthusiastic,'' Petar Stoykov stated in an interview for Kapital Daily.

''We would like to give everyone equal opportunity,'' Boyan Stanoev added.

The winners in the competition will have the chance to intern with the partner companies of the event, including Bulpros, Scale Focus, Nemecek, Setelis as well as school of robotics Robopartans.
