Roma Population in Garmen Can Now Purchase Residential Buildings

Merely a day prior to the mass protest to be held in Garmen in opposition to illegal Roma buildings in the region, Roma people will get the chance to purchase their homes from the municipality.

Starting Monday, each and every person residing in the minority neighborhood will be able to purchase their piece of land at a price of BGN 1,10 per square meter.

Meanwhile, government institutions are still continuing with the their inspections of the living conditions and possible law violations.

Representatives of the Directorate National Construction Control, electricity provider CEZ and Directorate Social Assistance have started jointed checks in the Roma neighborhood.

Additionally, a specialized unit has been created that will be working under the supervision of Bulgarian Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova. It is currently working on finding proper municipal residences for the Roma population.

Currently, the possibility for moving the families in the building of old schools is being discussed and is perceived to be highly likely.
