The residents of the Bulgarian village of Garmen held a peaceful protest on Tuesday against the illegal buildings in the Roma neighbourhood.

The citizens also declared themselves against the thefts, which have become more frequent in the region, private NOVA TV reports.

The local residents stated that they will hold protests every day until the illegal buildings are demolished and the Roma community is populated somewhere else.

The latest protest started on Tuesday evening in front of the building of the municipality and headed towards the place of Saturday's fighting with tensions running high, but without serious clashes.

The Interior Ministry tried to defuse the tensions in the village on Monday with a visit of Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova and Chief Secretary Georgi Kostov.

However the local residents were still discontent after their meeting with Bachvarova and Kostov and staged a short blockade of the road leading to the village and the Roma neighbourhood.

The protesters are not excluding further clashes in case their demand for demolition of the illegal buildings is not fulfilled until next week.
