A German meat processing company is exploring opportunities to open a plant in Northern Bulgaria, Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski has said.

Lukarski made a statement after reportedly meeting chief executives of the company, but stopped short. He stopped short of naming the potential investor but explained it was based in North Rhine-Westphalia (a province in Northeastern Germany).

"I hope we will soon have the occasion to announce the positive news about a suitable location for the investment," the economic news website Investor.bg quotes him as saying.

The towns of Montana, Targovishte, Shumen, Ruse, Pleven and Razgrad are all pointed to as possible venues to host the plant.

The current visit of the German delegation to Bulgaria is to continue until the end of the week.

Earlier statements about the same unnamed company (made during Lukarski's visit to Germany in March) suggested it aimed at opening a plant which could hire up to 130 workers and export all its output, most likely to Romania.
