Operational Program Maritime Affairs and Fisheries 2014-2020 will be sent to the European Commission for approval by end-June, according to Bulgaria’s Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva.

Speaking Friday at the opening of a whelk processing factory in the Black Sea coastal town of Kavarna, she said that the 2014-2020 edition of the operational program would have a bigger budget than the 2007-2013 edition, at EUR 113 M, including EUR 88 M in EU financing.

Taneva noted that the official approval of the program was due by end-2015, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.
She made clear that an indicative schedule for the opening of the measures under the program would be presented once the program had been officially approved.

Taneva argued that the payments under the 2007-2013 edition of the operational program would be finalized by the end of 2015.

She informed that contracted investments exceeded 100% of the total budget of BGN 188 M of the 2007-2013 edition of the program, while the money paid out under it stood at 62%.

Taneva wished good luck to the investor in the whelk processing factory and urged the company to take advantage of the new program to expand its capacity and increase the headcount.

The whelk processing factory in Kavarna has a contract for a subsidy of over BGN 109 000 under Measure 4.1 Development of Fisheries Areas.
