The left-wing ABV party (Alternative for Bulgarian Revival) of former two-term President Georgi Parvanov is holding an internal party vote to elect a leader.

Parvanov resigned from the post of ABV Chair in March after MPs from the party backed the taking of new debt of BGN 16 B, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

Parvanov is one of the candidates for ABV leader, the two others being Steliyan Stefanov, Chair of the local unit of the party in Ruse, and Trendafil Velichkov, District Governor of Pazardzhik.

There is an option for electronic voting as well as the traditional paper-based ballot papers.

The results of Saturday’s vote will be announced on Sunday at a national conference of the party.
