Greek PM Alexis Tsipras has called for faster-pace negotiations on a new agreement between Athens and international lenders.

Tsipras met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Brussels after an extraordinary EU Council session dedicated to finding an answer to the mass influx of asylum seekers from Africa led to Europe by traffickers,

Merkel for her part is quoted by Der Spiegel as saying "everything" has to be done to help keep Greece afloat.

The chancellor did not go into details, but stressed the two heads of government's conversation had been "constructive".

Greece announced in March it was finding it hard to make payments on debt installments, triggering speculation it might soon have to default and possibly leave the Eurozone.
