The forest fire in the municipality of Strumyani in southwestern Bulgaria has been localised and there is no danger of it spreading further.

The fire entered into Bulgarian territory on Friday afternoon through the border with Macedonia and affected a 150-year-old coniferous forest.

The cause of the incident was the setting on fire of a stubble in Macedonia, bTV station reports.

Macedonian authorities have launched an investigation of the incident and are trying to identify the owner of the field.

According to Bulgarian authorities, neither people nor properties were affected by the fire and there is no danger for the population.

The situation was taken under control before dusk on Friday due to the prompt reaction of firefighters and volunteers.
