The European Commission is expected to approve Bulgaria’s cross-border cooperation programs under the Instrument for Pre-accession assistance in June, according to Deputy Regional Development Minister Denitsa Nikolova.

Nikolova participated in two-day talks with representatives of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the EC, according to a media statement of Bulgaria’s Regional Development Ministry.

The cross-border cooperation programs are “Bulgaria-Serbia”, “Bulgaria-Macedonia”, and “Bulgaria-Turkey.”

The EC gave the green light to the launch of their early implementation.

The monitoring committee of the programs is expected to approve the application guidelines in July so that the first calls for proposals can be published.

During Nikolova’s visit, talks on the scope of operational program Regions in Growth 2014-2020 were wrapped up.
The operational program will include 67 Bulgarian towns and cities.

Nikolova also discussed with EC representatives opportunities for the early implementation of the main priority of the program concerning integrated urban development.
