The chief executive of the European Defence Agency (EDA) Jorge Domecq will arrive on an official visit to Bulgaria on Wednesday.

The schedule of his visit foresees meetings with Bulgaria's Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev and Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski.

Domecq is also expected to hold conversations in the ministries of finance and foreign affairs, the press service of the defence ministry informs.

The chief executive will also have a meeting with former Defence Minister General Anyu Angelov, who is currently an adviser to the political cabinet of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

During his visit, Domecq is also to meet with representatives of the scientific community in Bulgaria.

The participants in the meetings will exchange ideas and opinions on the EU's preparation on defence issues as well as Bulgarian commitments towards EDA projects.

EDA was established in 2004 as an intergovernmental organisation subordinated to the European Council with all EU member states, except Denmark, participating in it.

Its main mission is to support the European Council in its efforts on improving the European defence and crisis reaction capabilities.

EDA is a key participant in the development of capabilities, which are required in support of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).

Domecq, who is a senior Spanish diplomat, became chief executive of EDA on February 1, previously having served in Spanish diplomatic missions and international organisations.
