Bulgaria’s northwestern municipality of Vidin has terminated the waste collection and disposal services contract with Titan AS, according to Dobromir Dilov, interim Mayor.

Dilov, as cited by the Focus news agency, explained Friday that the company had basically stopped fulfilling its obligations under the contract over the past month.

He noted that the company had been given a deadline by March 26 to start fulfilling its contractual obligations and had failed to comply with it, meaning that the agreement was considered terminated as of March 27.

Earlier on Friday, employees of Titan AS, who are on strike, submitted their applications to leave the company over unpaid salaries for eight months.

The interim Mayor of Vidin specified that the Vidin Municipality had hired three teams of workers to clean up the most problematic areas in the city.

Dilov said that a proposal to set up a special unit at the Vidin Municipality tasked with waste collection and disposal activities would be put forth during an extraordinary meeting of the Vidin Municipal Council next week.

He noted that household waste was now being taken to the old landfill near the village of Zheglitsa.

Dilov also informed that the Vidin Municipality had a total of BGN 20 000 to rent equipment to clean up the area, adding that the sum was insufficient.

Titan AS is one of the companies in charge of waste collection and disposal in Sofia, dnevnik.bg reminds.
